The true intension of aerobic activity is NOT simply to burn excess calories! In fact, the dozens of aerobic machines and heart monitors that focus on "calories burned" falsely lead one towards believing "X" quantity of calorie expenditure equates with fat loss (WHICH IS NOT THE CASE). In fact, the purpose of aerobic activity is to prime the body's hormonal system to BURN STORED FAT AS ENERGY, and one can in fact DISRUPT THE FAT BURNING PROCESS through intense aerobic exercise sessions! If the goal were to simply burn calories, weight training should be the weight loss activity of choice, as it burns a considerably greater level of energy when compared to aerobic sessions. Yet, all who achieve sculpted, chiseled bodies concentrate on BOTH aerobics and weight training -- why then, do they not simply focus on resistence activity to promote low fat levels? Simple -- weights tone and firm (build) muscle, while aerobic activity TRAINS the body to burn fat! Thus, in order to derive fat loss benefit from aerobic sessions, one must SHY away from the idea of simple caloric burn (meaning NO LENGTHY OR HIGH OUTPUT AEROBIC WORKOUTS!) and instead embrace a moderate approach, which ENCOURAGES A CONSTANT RELEASE OF STORED FAT (due to the body's hormonal response to such stimulus). Amazingly enough, many experience little to no weight loss with INCREASED exercise length and intensity, so why follow common conventions? MORE IS NOT BETTER!
In short -- the goal of aerobic exercise is not caloric burn! Remember, weight (fat) loss
results from
PROPER implementation of aerobic activity / diet, and NOT intense aerobic
activity. I have achieved tremendous
success (over 50 pounds of FAT lost) through
proper exercise sessions and effective dietary techniques -- when done correctly, the urge
for overkill disappears.
